Banbury coordinator honoured for voluntary work by Halifax
FEB
2011
Contact the Elderly is thrilled to hear Andrew Willis, coordinator of our group in Banbury, Oxfordshire, has been chosen as a Halifax Giving Extra Award winner.
Halifax Giving Extra Awards recognises people who go the extra mile for their community across the country. Andrew is one of 66 local winners from across the UK and he has been recognised by the local panel of the Halifax Giving Extra Awards for his unstinting work raising money and volunteering for local groups and charities.
Andrew worked closely with Age UK and National Volunteer Support Officer Suzan Hyland to launch the Banbury group in November 2015. Nominated by Tina Turvey, who worked with Andrew at Age UK, Andrew has gone above and beyond for the people in his community.
For over ten years Andrew has volunteered across a series of community projects – including Age UK Oxfordshire, the Banbury branch of the Workers Education Association, and for MIND.
Andrew said: “I was overjoyed to find out I had won a Halifax Giving Extra Award. I do not do anything looking for recognition, but I do feel incredibly proud.”
Helen Hicks, Community Ambassador for Halifax Northants and Beds commented: “The work that Andrew has done for the community is outstanding and truly deserves this recognition. He has truly gone the extra mile for people in our community – and we are delighted to recognise this.”
The 66 local Halifax Giving Extra Award winners will each receive £300 in Supercheque vouchers. There will also be seven regional winners selected from these community champions, revealed in the coming weeks, who will receive a grant of up to £5,000 to make a further difference in their community.
Russell Galley, Group Director, Halifax Community Bank, said: “Halifax is committed to bringing communities closer together. We believe we should give extra back to people like Andrew who are pivotal to driving positive and lasting change. We’re proud that Andrew is one of our Halifax Giving Extra Award winners.”
Contact the Elderly is always pleased to see our volunteers get the recognition they deserve.
